This site is a result of the project Regional training for Education for Democratic Citizenship multipliers coordinated by Kultur Kontakt (www.kulturkontakt.or.at/) and funded by the Ministry of Education and Science, Switzerland, and Kultur Kontakt, Austria, within the framework of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe. It is intended to support EDC-trainers in planning and carrying out EDC-related seminars.

Description of Contents

As can be seen on the screenshot below, there are four main sections: EDC basics, good practice, methods and literature/links. "Basics" comprises country reports about EDC/CE and some basic texts, in the section "good practice" you can find a lot of information on the experiences of schools, adult education institutions, NGOs and others, and further information is given under "literature/links".

The main focus, however, is on "methods", where you can find a list of tools organised in six sub-categories.

The edc-toolbox - as is pointed out by the authors - can be used in two ways:

  • You have to plan or organize a lesson, a seminar or a training course and you don’t have a design – so you can start by searching in "good practice". Choose one of the criteria and wait for a result.

  • If you already have a design and a concept and you want to use some other methods, then go to methods and be inspired.

Using the Toolbox

The contents in the categories methods, good practice and literature is organised in databases. Therefore, when you surf to these categories you won't see any contents but only a search form for the database, which at first glance might look a little bit confusing. The dropdown-fields on the site "good practice" for example offer no less than 31 (!) categories to choose from a database which only contains 33 records! So it easily can happen that if you choose a category - for example "Adult education" - and than click on the Search button you will get no results at all.

There is, however, a simple workaround. Don't fill in anything and simply click on the "Search" button to get all the records listed like in a directory.

When using the toolbox, those of you looking for teaching material for direct and immediate use in the classroom will probably be disappointed simply because you won't find any. That, however, is not what the authors intended to offer. They compiled concepts and methods within the field of EDC which can support you in elaborating your own seminars and training courses and your own teaching material.
